Horse trail obstacle course includes bridge, teeter totter, back through "Z," gate, vine simulator, 2 mailboxes, 2 turnaround boxes, 4 jumps. Water trough and 3 step mounting platform at trail head. Paved, gravel and grass parking.Horse trails open everyday dawn to dusk. Negative Coggins required. $2 ride donation requested. Stay on marked trails. Well groomed and scenic wooded and lake-view trails. Suitable for beginning riders, too. 15.5 miles E. of I-35 on highway 9, N on Clear Bay Dr. to equestrian parking area on left. Please sign in at iron ranger. (Orange trail for Advanced horses and riders only-- narrow in spots and has a close fence line on Highway 9 side. )

Many hands make light work! When we start making events for trail cleanup, what days can you see yourself most likely attending?
Don't worry, comments to this post do NOT automatically enroll you for cleanup events đŸ˜…, just trying to put feelers out on how to best organize this!
There are several events in the works, both large and small groups.
We will need people who can mow, weedeat, and chainsaw, along with everyone who can trim tree branches from horseback! Likely tools MAY be provided, but it wouldnt hurt to have a few extras on board!

MEET OUR NEW THUNDERBIRD TRAIL AMBASSADOR Amy Gent. I'm honored to be stepping into the role of Trail Ambassador for Lake Thunderbird.
First, I want to thank Cindy. She has done so much for this community, and I know I have some big shoes to fill. While I could never replace everything she's contributed, I hope to build on the strong foundation she's created and continue supporting the riders and volunteers who make this place so special. Cindy tells me you'll still see her out on the trails.

A little about me: I was born and raised in Oklahoma and grew up on my family's farm in Harrah. Horses have always been a part of my life. I spent 20 summers working at a YMCA riding barn, and over the years I've started young horses, worked with horses that needed a refresher, and generally served as the "crash test dummy." If it had four legs and a strong back, there was a good chance I'd volunteered to ride it!

In 2010, I joined the United States Army, and in 2011 I deployed to Iraq for an 11-month tour. After leaving the military, I spent the next 10 years earning my Bachelor of Science in Outdoor Community Recreation from the University of Central Oklahoma. My education, along with my experiences in the Army and the horse world, reinforced something I've always believed: strong communities are built by people who are willing to work together.

My passion is connecting people with the outdoors through horses. More than anything, I want to help keep Lake Thunderbird a welcoming, safe, and enjoyable place for everyone who loves to ride here.

I know many of you have been riding these trails and volunteering here far longer than I have, and I have a lot to learn from your experience. I'm looking forward to listening, working alongside you, and doing my best to represent our equestrian community well.

Thank you for welcoming me. I'm excited for what's ahead, and I hope you'll never hesitate to share your ideas, concerns, or suggestions with me.

It's time! Iam 71 y.o. and have been the OETRA Thunderbird Lake Trail Ambassador and State Park Liaison for 15 years. I need a younger person to take over.

-Do you love trail riding?
-Do you ride Thunderbird Norman?
--Are you good at organizing stuff and bringing people together?

How about taking over. Its a very rewarding voluntary position.

You'll be riding trails and occasionally contacting park management on things that need maintenance.

You'll also be gathering groups for work days (we have some amazing volunteers)

You'll be taking pictures of riders (with their permission) and posting them on the HOT page.

You'll be managing the HOT FB page.

You'll be submitting an occasional article for the Oklahoma Trail Riders Association newsletter.
