AGF OKC SUMMER 2026
This weekend was a tale of two JWF teams in different stages of development.
KIDS
Our kids team was blessed to gain a lot of new students recently. Sadly, we almost simultaneously lost several our hammers.
I awarded some promotions before AGF (won’t be doing THAT again 😩)
And I’ll tell ya , that was a tournament full of really, really good competitors.
The kids team has plenty to be proud of. They trained so hard for this tournament. They got out there and scored some good Ws. They believed their new techniques, and fought their little hearts out. That makes us very proud.
We’re in a bit of a rebuilding phase but this beginners team is starting to gel and their friendships are flourishing. I predict huge improvements this fall.
ADULTS
Maaan when I tell you this JWF Adults crew came out SWWWINGIN! 🔥
Lights out. Lights out. LIGHT OUT grappling all day. Holy hell that was so, so cool to be a part of. We bust our asses, day in and day out, for moments like just like this. I’ve never felt so much pride in this team as I do right now.
The date change left us without several of our hitters. What was supposed to be a huge adult no gi team ended up as 7. We took 2nd place in Adults NoGi at the biggest tournament of the year; missing 1st place by 2 points. 115-113
We even got rare gold and a bronze in Adult Gi 🤯
The support and camaraderie these athletes show one another is inspirational. We have our good days and our tough days. But we rock that gorilla logo with pride. Sam and I are so blessed to be living this amazing, super badass lifestyle.
And, the icing on the cake: I got to the huge honor of doing a match with Chris Carlino.
I wanted to be way more exciting but I also thought he was gonna beat my ass so 🤷♂️. He defended my two best attacks (Choi, Gilley) and had me in danger of being passed near the end. It was only the thought of my wife’s sweet, uptown caboose that gave me the strength to carry on.
It was a bit slower match than I think either of us would’ve liked. But with a combined age over 100 years, I think we did okay. 👍 We had an awesome gallery of family, friends, and teammates to watch our match. That was something special.
AGF has been good to us and I think we will probably be returning. 5/5 Stars.
