Over the weekend, we had the privilege of hosting the final Tahoe Freeride U12 event of the year on our most reliable freeride run, “The Nose,” on Disney. Our Sugar Bowl crew welcomed and cheered on nearly 80 young rippers in attendance from resorts across the Tahoe basin and even as far as Whitewater, BC! The soft and sunny conditions served up the perfect canvas for the kids to push their personal limits and find fun, creative, and very exciting lines for all.
In the girls' snowboard category, our weekend athletes Tessa Cullerton, Roxie Bones, and Sloane Khiari went first, second, and third on the day and showcased the up-and-coming talent from our growing SBSTA snowboard program. On the boys snowboarding podium, young shred Owen Squires found a smooth line and earned a second-place finish. The girls' ski category put on an amazing show of technique, strength, and joyful skiing. Zoey Clark found herself on the first-place step of the podium after laying down a line stacked with airs and an impressive show of strong technique. In the afternoon, the U12 boys kicked it up a notch with huge airs, fast skiing, and good vibes from the whole crew. Up-and-comer Abe Scholnick took the win on the day with a super speedy run with great turns mixed in with his signature big airs. SBA freerider Baker Cashel took 3rd, with a stylish grab on the top feature and one of the best splaffys we’ve seen in competition in years! Charlie Blank took 4th on the day with great style, and SBA’s Tanner Knauf locked in a 7th place finish with an impressive air and great turns in the middle of his run. It was an absolute pleasure to have so much youthful and exuberant freeride energy on tap to remind us what this sport is all about after a long competition season. Thanks to all of our competitors, volunteers, and partners at Sugar Bowl Resort for making this event an absolute success!
