Happy 8th Birthday, Eli! 🥳🐴💛

One of our favorite things about S&D is watching riders become part of the family- and this family has certainly done that.

Over the years, they've come out to ride with us again and again, with some of the kids riding 4, 5, and even 6 times! Some have even joined our Riding Block program, spending extra time learning, bonding with the horses, and becoming more confident riders.

This family was so fun to hear from- listening to their stories, learning about their aspirations of professional growth in the equine industry, and friendly banter over who gets to ride Indy next!

Thank you for choosing to celebrate Eli's birthday with us and for continuing to support our horses. We appreciate your family more than we can say, and love being part of your horseback riding journey ✨

Houdini's journey to S&D almost didn't happen 🤎🐴

Before arriving in California, Houdini suffered a significant laceration while at the feedlot after being injured in the pasture during the night.

After the injury, the feedlot team called Sonja to ask if she still wanted to move forward with the purchase. She said yes.

What happened next was something we're incredibly grateful for. Rather than removing him from the list, the feedlot team stepped in and provided treatment for a week while he healed.

They carefully monitored the wound, treated it with Blue Coat to protect the injury and repel flies, and kept a close eye on his recovery. A big thank you to Bowie Texas Livestock for helping with his recovery.

While flesh wounds can look dramatic, they're often very treatable when infection is prevented and proper care is provided. Thankfully, Houdini responded well to treatment and was healthy enough to make the trip west.

Today, we're getting to know the horse beyond the story. A gentle old soul with kind eyes, a sweet disposition, and a bright future ahead of him.

Watching Houdini comfortably explore the pasture alongside the other horses is a reminder of how quickly a life can change when given care, patience, and a second chance 💛

We recently recovered a beautiful Sabino Paint gelding 🤎🐴

While on a do-not-ship list, he suffered a significant laceration during the moving process. Sonja received the call and made the decision to purchase him and give him a second chance.

Due to his injury, he wasn’t able to be transported right away, and the initial treatment and care for his wound was provided for two weeks before we were finally able to recover him from the feedlot.
