11/04/2015
Okay, so on Badwater race day, 7/28/15, I started on a 100 day journey to run 1,000 miles in one pair of shoes, Zero Limit ALTRAS of course, and raise $10,000 for the kiddos of the non-profit 100MileClub.com, a charity that is very close to my heart, because it gets school kids involved in running. The journey ends tomorrow, 11/4.
So, here's where we're at with that - and when I see we, that means me on the miles, and my running friends on the $10,000 dollars raised:
Miles - 1,913.4 miles in 99 days. Yeah, about double. And my ALTRAS are really showing it.
Dollars raised - $1,306! Yep, jest a little short.
So here's the dealio. If there's ever been a time that I've helped you /inspired you/encouraged you in your running & walking - like uh:
Coaching/mentoring you for your first marathon.
Coaching/mentoring you for your first ultra.
Coaching/mentoring you for your first 100-miler.
Cheering for you at the start of a race with my crazy signs, running the race, cheering for you as I passed by, and then waiting for you at the finish with my trusty cowbell or train whistle to walk you in. Even if - especially if - you were the very last person.
If I've done any of those things for you, could you please consider donating $10 (or $1,000 - don't want to limit your goals here) to sponsor one underprivileged school kid for a year?
I never ask for anything in return for what I do, I believe it's my obligation to Pay It Forward for the many great running experiences I've had, but I am asking for jest this one thing.
And here's my commitment to you. I'll meet you all half way.
I'll commit to doubling my mileage - which means somehow squeezing 86.6 miles in tomorrow - If the Jester Nation will help me raise jest half of my original goal - of $10,000.
Of course I'd be Ed-static to see the $10,000 goal reached by 11/5, but anywhere close to to $5,000 would be good, as that means 500 more kids that wouldn't otherwise be able to participate, can experience the pure joy of running throughout the school year.
