Hi Folks!
Chad Chubb, CEO of Chubb Disc Golf here. Over the last 7 years I’ve learned something I hold close to me. At times when the world was brutal and too much to handle, I had Disc Golf and our community to take my mind away from it. I’ve made what I hope are lifelong friends, helped build a community and hopefully, above all brought some joy to this world.
In 7 years I’ve TD’d around 60 events, several leagues, a few putting leagues and served on a board in Hamilton County for 5 of those years. I’ve had the pleasure of hosting for over 6500 players since 2016. I’ve crafted and distributed over 700 trophies at no cost to our players, something I’ve been very proud of and will miss. I’ve made around 1400 shirts, 2300 towels, 270 license plates and distributed around 15,000 discs. Those numbers are neat, but that’s not what I hold close to me.
When my father died, I was absolutely devastated. My home club knew I was hurting. They sent flowers to Dad’s service and I knew when I read the card, this is family. After, I sank my mind into disc golf to help get over the void of losing Dad. I found a group of men and women who didn’t turn me away at my saddest. They embraced me, loved me, and gave me something hopeful to look forward to. This was kind of the start of truly diving in and trying to make something strong and unique.
Some of our board has asked a few times why I give the club most things at cost or below. That’s been an easy one to answer, but I rarely do.
Our club, is family. Watching our family thrive was always goal number one.
I’ve got to lead some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met and, I’m very thankful for all we’ve done together. I got to officiate a wedding for a close friend and his beautiful wife. One of my favorite memories was crushing paper score cards with the team. All of us were really fast with math. In a time before digital score cards, we’d have payout ready within 5 minutes of the last card in. That doesn’t seem as impressive now, but then it was unheard of. It was a symphony of teamwork, comradery and friendship. Of all the things I’ll miss in this sport, crushing the hell out of paper scorecards with the team is among the most missed already.
I’ve got to collaborate on events with some of the most talented people I’ve known. I’ve got to be a counselor for others in rough situations.
I’ve got to lead a community where the voiceless have a voice, a purpose and passion. I’ve watched others grow into strong, confident humans. I’ve grown a lot too in the presence of people I look up to.
If you’re reading this, this means you too. You’ve given me purpose, love, friendship and meaning. I am forever grateful for your presence.
Friends, Family, It's time to move on to something new for me and let Hamilton County and Indiana grow in a new direction with new faces and new ideas. Chubb Disc Golf will close November 1st.
I want to thank you all for giving me purpose, friendship, compassion, and love. This has been one of my favorite experiences in life and will miss it dearly. In closing, I left Disc Golf better than I found it here in Hamilton County and beyond. I hope you’ll strive to do the same and build something beautiful and leave it better than you found it.
