🏁 THE HISTORY OF PRO STOCK RACING — WHERE IT ALL STARTED 🏁
When I think about Pro Stock racing, I don’t just think about race cars.
I think about where it came from.
I think about the old cars, the small shops, the late nights in the garage, and the racers who built these machines with whatever they had. There wasn’t always a big budget or a professional crew. A lot of the time, it was a driver, a few friends, a garage, and a whole lot of determination.
That’s what made Pro Stock racing special.
These cars were born from the idea that you could take something that looked like a stock car, build some serious horsepower, put it on dirt, and go see who could get around the track the fastest.
As the years went by, the cars evolved.
Engines got more powerful. Chassis became more sophisticated. Suspension technology changed. Tires, shocks, setups and fabrication all continued to advance.
But the heart of Pro Stock racing never really changed.
It’s always been about the people.
I’ve heard the stories about the drivers who could make an old car do things nobody thought possible. I’ve heard about the legendary builders, the crew members who could fix anything in the pits, and the car owners who would do whatever it took to get their cars back on the track.
I’ve seen how one generation passes that knowledge down to the next.
And that’s something I don’t ever want us to lose.
Because when we talk about Pro Stock history, we shouldn’t just talk about championships and trophies.
We should talk about the drivers who showed up every Saturday night.
The families who spent their summers at the race track.
The crew members who worked until sunrise.
The builders who turned ordinary cars into race-winning machines.
The tracks that gave these racers a place to compete.
And the fans who kept coming back, race after race.
Some of these names are still well known.
Others may have been forgotten over the years.
But every one of them played a part in getting Pro Stock racing to where it is today.
So I’m asking everyone who has been around this sport for a while:
