We had so much fun this weekend but wanted to make a special shout out to our course designer, repair team, and HHP staff.
After Indiana received 12+ inches of rain within a 2 week period, we weren’t sure if this show was going to even be able to go on. The park is in a flood plain (hence the gnats) and the drainage isn’t the best. IEA and the HHP purchased a very expensive piece of equipment to ensure the best footing possible, and Mother Nature laughed at our efforts.
The riders that have ridden the 3 Day may have realized that almost the entire course was run on the roads and tracks ground. This was the ultimate pivot from Beth Perkins after seeing the flooding that was happening. Losing the Long Format this year was a tough blow but losing the entire event would have been worse for everyone. So our team went to work. James and Joe Rauch went to work hand digging out the drainage systems and engineering paths for water to flow. Beth redesigned the course to higher ground. The feedback from the riders is that they LOVED the course and the footing was perfect.
There is so much work that goes on behind the scenes and these unsung hero's of the event needed to be spotlighted. Thank you to everyone who make this weekend a memorable one! Long Format will be better than ever next year, so I hope you put us on your calendar!
