Learning to swim can open the door to so much more!

For a group of young Chicago rowers, swim lessons at FOSS are helping them feel safer and more confident on the water — while opening up new opportunities to row, compete, attend camps, and connect with their teammates.

Through a partnership with Chicago Community Sculling and Outdoor Afro’s Making Waves program, these students are building skills that go far beyond the pool.

At Foss Swim School, we believe every swimmer deserves to feel confident and safe in the water, and Safety Day is one of our favorite ways to bring that mission to life.

From October 12–18, students (except Blackfloat Baby, Little 1, Little 2, and Middle 1 levels) are invited to wear clean, dry clothes over their swimsuits for a special lesson. Please skip jeans, socks, and shoes!

Why do we do this? Because real-life water safety means being prepared for the unexpected. During Safety Day, kids will:
- Practice staying calm and swimming to safety—even when it feels different
- Discover how wet clothes can make swimming more challenging
- Learn and practice the right way to get to safety, with our teachers guiding them every step

We keep things fun, supportive, and memorable, so students look forward to learning these important skills!

Fall Quarter Families - It's time for Safety Week! Safety Week is when our students review and practice key water safety skills during their class and review basic water safety tips. 🏊

From October 12 - 18, we ask that all students (except those in our Blackfloat Baby, Little 1, Little 2, and Middle 1 levels) wear clean, dry clothes over their swimsuit to their lessons. Please no jeans, socks, or shoes!

We aim to make this a fun learning experience for students that they can look forward to. For the full experience, we will try to keep goggles off for as long as possible.
