We have no intention of arguing over yesterday’s unexpected cancellation. This would have been our second year at this location, and the owner had previously been made aware of the requirements necessary to provide a safe and suitable track.
Had we not intended to uphold our end of the agreement, we simply would not have shown up with our entire working crew prepared to put in the time, manpower, and effort required to make our part of the event successful.
We also had multiple drivers in attendance who regularly travel with and support our racers. After seeing the track conditions, they were understandably not comfortable participating. These men and women invest a significant amount of time and money into their vehicles, and ultimately could not justify putting themselves or their equipment at unnecessary risk under those conditions.
We were also donating our time, manpower, and personal funds toward the event and the fundraiser because we genuinely wanted to contribute and help make it a success. However, our first and foremost responsibility will always be the safety of our participants, attendees, and crew.
There simply was not enough time yesterday to bring the track into the condition necessary to safely conduct a speed-based mud race. That was the reality of the situation.
This is not about placing blame or throwing anyone under the bus. It is about making a responsible decision based on the conditions we were presented with. Safety has to come before everything else, and there will be no argument from us regarding that decision.
