This is something I see too often. If you are using the line on your ball, it’s only as good as your ability to aim the line to your target, AND your ability to make the putter match the line.

What you are seeing in this picture is a player that aimed the ball correctly, but consistently pointed the putter left of the line on the ball. And consequently missed putts to the left. The fix was to use a putting mirror to monitor eye position when the putter matched the line on the ball.

Knowing your eye dominance can go a long way in helping you aim the line on your ball to your intended target. It’s pretty simple if you’re same side dominate (right handed/right eye). But if you’re cross dominate (right handed/left eye for example) some adjustments will need to be made in order to be any good at using the line to aim.

Ball gates are easy on straight putts.

On a breaking putt, they expose your start line and speed.

If the gate isn’t set correctly, you’re training the wrong start line.
