For our founder, Northwest Florida State College wasn’t where the journey began — but it was where everything changed.

From a standout high school player, to taking the harder road, to reaching the Major Leagues, Coach Brett’s path was anything but easy. Along the way, Northwest Florida State became more than a stop in the journey — it became a second chance. A place that helped shape the future he was chasing.

Now, years later, that journey has come full circle.

Opening Gulf South Academy at Northwest Florida State College isn’t just about baseball. It’s about creating opportunities for the next generation in the same place that helped create one of our own.

MEET THE STAFF: TYLOR KENDALL

Coach Kendall’s focus is building explosive, high-performing athletes through speed development, strength training, power production, and movement efficiency.

As Director of Performance, he brings an athlete-first approach centered around maximizing athleticism, increasing durability, and helping players perform at a higher level.

Coach Kendall has developed training systems designed to improve acceleration, explosiveness, mobility, and overall performance on the field.

MEET THE STAFF: ALLEN THOMAS

Allen Thomas joins Gulf South Academy as our Director of Player Optimization , bringing more than 25 years of elite experience in baseball performance and athlete development.

Known for his long-standing role as Director of Performance for the Chicago White Sox organization, Coach Thomas helped build one of Major League Baseball’s most comprehensive player development systems.

His programming emphasizes kinetic chain efficiency, ground force production, and movement sequencing — principles that have become foundational across modern baseball performance science.

From professional athletes to elite youth development, Coach Thomas has spent his career helping athletes maximize movement, durability, and performance.

MEET THE STAFF: AJ Howard

Coach AJ brings a championship mindset, elite player development experience, and a passion for helping athletes reach their full potential.

From competing at Troy University and winning a Sun Belt Championship to developing college signees and championship teams, AJ has spent years building disciplined, confident, and competitive athletes both on and off the field.

His experience in pitching development, strength and conditioning, and leadership development will play a huge role in what we are building at Gulf South Academy.

We are proud to have him leading and mentoring the next generation of players.

MEET THE STAFF: Logan Pierce

Baseball runs deep in the Pierce family.

The son of legendary Troy University coach Bobby Pierce — the winningest coach in Troy baseball history — Logan Pierce brings a lifetime of high-level baseball knowledge and experience to Gulf South Academy.

A former All-American at Troy University and MLB Draft pick of the Philadelphia Phillies, Coach Pierce combines elite playing experience with a true passion for developing hitters the right way.

From swing efficiency and pitch recognition to offensive confidence and approach, Logan helps players understand not just HOW to hit — but how to compete.

At Gulf South Academy, our players are surrounded by coaches who have lived the game at the collegiate and professional levels and are committed to mentoring the next generation.

MEET THE STAFF: Chad Miller

At Gulf South Academy, we believe development is about more than just reps on the field.

It’s about understanding how athletes move, how they train, how they recover, and how to help them maximize their potential over time.

That’s why adding Chad Miller to our staff is such a huge piece of what we are building.

Chad brings an elite level background in performance science, biomechanics, and player optimization that gives our athletes access to resources and development tools rarely available at this level of baseball.
