Last month, the Helen Gee Chin Scholarship Foundation celebrated its 15th anniversary at our Open House/Fundraiser at Calvin Chin's Martial Arts Academy. Thanks to our donors' generosity, we are proud to award a total of $20,000 for the 2026-27 year:

• $3500 to David Liang of Calvin Chin's Martial Arts Academy
• $3500 to Landau Tzou of Elite Kung Fu
• $3500 to Kaden Wong of US Wushu Center
• $3500 to Lenore Zatopek of Austin Kung Fu &Tai Chi

Honorable Mentions:
• $2000 to Ariana Wong Malaga of Lee Koon Hung Choy Lay Fut
• $2000 to Olivia McBreen of Siu Lum Pai Kung Fu/Ted Giantini
• $2000 to Riyana Thenuwara of Elite Kung Fu

The scholarships were unveiled at the USKSF Tournament in Baltimore this past weekend. CCMAA students have competed there for years, and it is now a place where funds are raised with annual t-shirt sales, paper crafts sales and donations.

Congratulations to all the scholarship recipients whose hard work, character, and dedication have truly set them apart.

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Calvin Chin's Martial Arts Academy and 15th anniversary of the Helen Gee Chin Scholarship Foundation! We were honored to welcome Mayor Marc Laredo, who presented us with a proclamation in recognition of our 30 years of serving the Newton community.

Thank you to the members of the business community and fellow martial arts schools who came to show their goodwill and support for CCMAA and the Foundation. We truly appreciate your friendship and support.

It was wonderful to reconnect with so many alumni who returned to participate, support, or even perform at our fundraiser benefiting the Foundation. Seeing familiar faces from throughout the years made the celebration even more special. A few hours wasn't enough time to catch up with everyone, but we were grateful that many joined us for our group photo. Please don't wait for another milestone to come visit!

Lastly, our heartfelt thanks to the Academy's and the Foundation's supporters, donors, and volunteers who made this event possible. Your countless hours of planning and hard work behind the scenes brought everything together, and we are deeply grateful for your dedication and generosity.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors, the Helen Gee Chin Scholarship Foundation proudly awarded $21,500 in scholarships in the 2025–2026 academic year, bringing our cumulative total to $204,500 granted since 2011 — a milestone that reflects the strength and commitment of our community. We are excited and optimistic as we look forward to another banner year ahead.

CCMAA’s Open House (which raises funds to support the Helen Gee Chin Scholarship Foundation) has been scheduled well in advance, as we will be celebrating two important milestones: 30 years of the Academy and 15 years of the Foundation. Please mark your calendars for June 28th.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with friends, and in this milestone year, we especially hope to see alumni, parents, and even scholarship recipients (please RSVP to [email protected]).

The event will include student and instructor performances, crafts and t-shirts for purchase, and raffle and auction items benefiting the Foundation.

The Helen Gee Chin Scholarship Foundation selection committee has completed its review of 2025-26 applications. Over the years, our scholarships have supported students with dedication, discipline, and a strong connection to martial arts values, as well as academic achievements.
