Menace Yachting Menace Yachting Team. Currently campaigning 3 Classic 18ft M Class and Melges 40. BTW it's the name of the crew, not the boats! ;) by name and by nature.

This page is to record the adventures of the Menace crew. Conceived in late 2011, whilst standing at the RAYC bar after yet another day of racing aboard the 18ft Classic skiff M Class Matara, our loyal lady for the past 18.5 seasons, at that point. We were discussing / debating what to call our new boat, a new M Class, when one of the officers of the club came in as we were ordering another tray o

f Rums and stated, "you lot are a bloody Menace" and the team was named.....

Then came the decision to step up a little and the MC38 was delivered for Xmas 2012 and we commenced our 'slightly larger menace' program, we had good time with her for 5 years, collected morethan our share of silverware but we have now moved on too...

A Melges 40, with three new boats headed to NZ 2020, we were asked, is it you? Well no, at that point it wasn’t, but a few short days later it was and so it continues....

On this page will document the documentable bits of our little program!

Not often that we post but a tour worth celebrating, 3 Regattas on our North American tour, won the chocolates in all three… 🤩 the OD race and regatta where very cool but to have some gear failure on our chartered yacht days before the Block Island Regatta meant we had to revert to an IC37 so to come away with a victory in a ORC regatta was awesome, to win the round the Island Race, which had a lot of reaching when we had no reaching sails showed how well the team had come together. Awesome to take a (mostly) kiwi team and achieve these results!

The weekends activity...

A close regatta, with some very busy mark roundings, in the end we were beaten by 0.5 points by the Sikon team, who simply sailed better than us with less errors... Well done to John and the team.

Trawling and destroying our only A2 on race 5 of 12, was certainly less than ideal!

A ‘tied’ finish on race 11 also a feature... Never had one of those before!

Lots of fun in big breeze left us all tired but with smiles all round, can't wait for the next hit out!

Thanks to RNZYS, volunteers and all the other crews! Also of course to the Live Sail Die crew for the awesome visuals once again.

Bay Week 2021

A bit apprehensive before the start having never raced our ‘new to us’ boat.

Awesome to come away with the chocolates & win on line in a competitive fleet of 40’s including 4 Melges 40s.

Thanks to the team at Doyle Sails for helping us tune up and for a great new quiver of sails, we weren’t slow!

Plenty of learnings and lots of ‘own goals’ & 🤔 our navigation issues appeared again.

Excited for the next regatta and ticking off some things off the ‘to be improved’ list.

New to us boat, out trying to tune up, 30ish knot puff, what to do... Grip, rip and send her down the mine... She popped up ok... Big grins all round, this is going to be a fun boat.
