Today, our Vikings faced tough opponents in every division. Through the heat, the weather, and some incredibly physical matchups, our athletes continued to show heart, determination, and courage. We could not be prouder of the way they gave their all and represented Newport.

Today also brought two moments that reminded us that this is so much bigger than football.

During our 10U and 12U games, two of our incredible young men suffered injuries that required emergency medical assistance. Those are moments no coach, parent, teammate, or organization ever wants to experience.

We are incredibly grateful to share that both of our young men are expected to make full recoveries. πŸ’œπŸ™ We ask Vikings Nation to continue keeping them and their families in your thoughts and prayers as they recover.

Their health comes before footballβ€”period. We will follow all appropriate return-to-play precautions and medical guidance before either athlete returns to the field.

Today also gave us an opportunity to evaluate how we can continue improving the safety measures we have in place. Moving forward, we are taking steps to have EMS/EMT personnel present at our remaining home games this season, and members of our Executive Board and Head Coaching staff will participate in additional safety and emergency-response training.

We can always learn. We can always improve. And when it comes to protecting our kids, we will.

Wins and losses will never be more important than the young people wearing NEWPORT across their chest. Every athlete entrusted to our organization deserves our very best effort to provide a safe environment where they can learn, compete, grow, and have fun.

Our athletes come FIRST. Every team. Every age. Every time.
