Looking forward to another good trip to Newport this June!
Sailor Spotlight!
Ben Capuco's Team ZUUL, will be starting its 4th Annapolis to Newport Race in just about 4 months. One of the most memorable moments came during the 2021 race, when perfect 20-knot downwind ocean sailing conditions made the journey up the coast to Newport feel like smooth sailing. The crew’s go-to meal? Casseroles from Pallet Pleasers in Eastport—one crew member even joked, “This is the only ocean racing I've done where I gained weight!” After completing the 475-mile race, celebrations on Zuul begin with a Dark and Stormy and Cheetos on board, often evolving into an all-night party that finds its way to IYAC. The night usually ends with “Cheeto Burritos” back at the rental house, (a secret recipe too complicated to share). The return trip from Newport may be a bit of a chore, but sailing past Manhattan down the East River makes it all worthwhile for this crew. The crew is still eagerly awaiting the day they can sail by the NYC skyline with their “Stay Puft Marshmallow Man” spinnaker flying proudly.
