The Arkansas State University Newport softball team received the heartbreaking news in February that the school was discontinuing the program following the conclusion of the 2026 season. The team choose to finish what they worked for and play for each other.

During postseason play, Freshman Shaylie Mayfield, (Clarksville, AR/Lamar HS) etched her name into Aviator Softball history by breaking the program record for consecutive games with a hit, finishing the season with an incredible 21-game hitting streak! 🥎👏
