Some of our Coaches attended a 2 day Wilderness First Aid training this weekend taught by our very own Elliot Crowder! We spent a day and a half in the classroom and the final afternoon at Big Creek working on a “final practical scenario” where our skills were put to the test. Thank you all who participated, and thanks to Elliot and Jeff for the amazing class. Can’t wait to start the season in July!

FWIW, I’m told they will travel to other teams…

Last practice of the season means the return of bike soccer! It was the Chickens vs the Crabs in a 30 min grudge match, with the Chickens prevailing with a final score of 7-3! State championships this weekend in Prineville!

Want people to show up to practice? Tell them we’re riding Big Creek! We mostly ride Wilder in the beginning of the season to prep for the Newport race, but somewhere around the first race, we start alternating Mondays at Wilder and Thursdays at Big Creek. Tonight was the first night of Big Creek and we hit it hard! We had a couple guest join us today as well. Thanks Newport Trail Stewards for building an awesome trail system!

Earlier this year, the Newport Composite team was awarded a grant from the Siletz Tribal Chartiable Contribution Fund to purchase an enclosed trailer to house all of our race infrastructure. Couple that with our recent sponsorship campaign, and we were able to purchase a couple loaner bikes, extra safety gear and also provide scholarships to students needing financial assistance. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, Oregon Coast Bank and the rest of our amazing sponsors for making this happen!

Also thank you to Ken at Newport Signs for making this trailer POP! I’m happy to be towing this home today to get ready for our race next weekend!
