Who Is There at the Match?
Several folks have asked ‘just who is at the match?’. The term diversity comes to mind. There are a whole host of folks ‘at the match’.
There are those that plan the match weeks a head of time (even for a Tier I match), ones that are there at 05:00 hrs the day of, and those that are there, still, 3-4 hours after the match. There are those that Match Direct, Safety Officers (called SOs), and score keepers. An occasional brass plucker.
There are those that can shoot, and I really mean ‘can shoot’. There are those that are pretty good shooters. Ones that have shot before and are improving. Ones that have never shot a match and are not quite sure if they should do this or not.
There are ones who only concentrate on getting the quickest time, best accuracy, and just THE best. There are ones who try once, and ones who never give up. Ones that know everything, ones that do not, and ones who constantly learn.
There are ones who need a little help. Ones who need to borrow some equipment. And there are a whole lot more that are willing to give that help and/or loan that equipment.
First timers, old timers. There are carpenters, engineers, surgeons, nurses, police, fire fighters, pasters, bosses, laberors, entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers. Never met an Indian Chief that I know of. Husbands, wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, sons, daughters, grandkids, and an occasional weird uncle.
Of all these ‘different’ types, all Freedom Loving individuals, enjoying their rights and privileges are some really extraordinary people to be associated with. They are enjoying what they do, and don't mind sharing at all.
That… is who is at the match. Which oneS are you? Why not get involved and find out?
Stay safe, and see you on the range!
