Definitely will do some damage😳
If you’ve never seen the claws on an American black bear up close, this picture says everything.
Those aren’t “nails,” they’re curved chisels, thick, sharp, and long enough to wrap clear across a man’s palm. In the wild, these claws rip open logs, climb trees like ladders, flip rocks, and leave sign on trees that looks like it was carved with a knife.
What blows people away is the sheer scale of them. A mature bear’s front claws routinely push past 2 inches, and the muscles behind them are just as impressive. Seeing them in photos is one thing. Laying a hand next to them is a whole different level of respect.
These are the tools of a powerful North American predator, a reminder of why bear sign stops hunters in their tracks and why anyone who chases big game knows exactly what kind of animal owns the woods.
