Hot take…
Just because you paid for the best team doesn’t mean your kid is magically going to become a better player.
Too many parents think writing the check is the hard part. It isn’t. The hard part starts when practice ends.
Stop blaming coaches because your kid hasn’t improved. Team practice isn’t built around your athlete. It’s built around the team. Defense, situations, communication, systems—that’s what team practice is for.
Coaches don’t have three hours every week to fix every swing, every throwing flaw, every mental mistake, and every weakness. That’s the work that has to happen after practice.
If she can’t hit the inside pitch, go hit 300 inside pitches. If she can’t handle the changeup, go find someone to throw changeups. If she’s a pitcher who can’t throw strike one, go throw another bullpen. If she struggles with backhands, hit her 200 more ground balls.
You don’t fix weaknesses by waiting for the next team practice. You fix them when nobody else is watching.
Here’s the truth that stings…
Some parents expect Division I results with rec league effort.
The kids who separate themselves aren’t just on better teams. They’re doing the work nobody sees. The extra swings. The extra bullpens. The extra ground balls. The extra conditioning. Over and over again.
Stop chasing logos and start chasing development.
Because you can buy a spot on a roster…
You can’t buy the work.
And you sure as hell can’t buy development
