Freedom is not free! It Never had been and will Never be.

Every generation has to do their share to defend their freedoms and their rights- sometimes in big ways and sometimes in smaller ways. I am very proud of the brave student protestors in India who are fighting for their rights against a government that seems not to care. The situation is similar to the student revolt in Kerala the I imagined for my novel, The Girl in Scarlet Hijab (Amazon.com).

For the past decade India has been on the track of political stability and economic development powered by the youth- I pray that the Modi government heeds the call of the youth and do whats right for the nation. India cannot afford an internal crisis when the world is in chaos. Now is the time when courage should be met with humility. I thank Dr Shashi Tharoor MP and Kerala CM VD Sateesh and other leaders for their support for the students.

Many people can write a good book, but very few can write a foreword to a book is better that the book itself. I was the fortunate recipient of such literary brilliance when Mr. K Jayakumar, one the living literary giants from the State of Kerala, India and the 2024 Indian Sahitya Academi awardee, wrote a foreword in Malayalam language for my debut novel, Girl in Scarlet Hijab. The 2 page foreword was so precise and well-crafted, that it generated interests in other Indian languages publishers. As the author, I am proud of my novel, but I even more proud of the blessing of this extraordinary work of art by Mr. K. Jayakumar. So I am talking the liberty of sharing this gem with you. Thanks!

Few weeks ago, I read the English translation of the novel Chemmeen, by Thakazhi S Pillai- considered to be the greatest story ever written in Malayalam. The book which centers around a forbidden love story between a Hindu fisherman’s daughter and a Muslim man in a Kerala seaside community definitely lived up to its billing. Written in beautiful yet realistic dialogue intertwined with the everyday life and myths of the seafaring community of Kerala, Chemmeen was one of the most successful books for all time and was made into a blockbuster movie that won the National Award for Best Feature film (India) in 1965. Highly Recommend .
