Today is my 6th year anniversary of opening my Dōjō and becoming an instructor.

I’m thankful to all that I’ve worked with or trained for the opportunity to be a part of this martial art and community here at Aotake Dōjō and the wider community of Shisenkan Kokusai Kobudō Renmei.

I’m especially thankful for my teacher Ron Kosen Sensei for his guidance, kindness, dedication, and instruction.

Congrats to all!

Congrats to all!

What an incredible weekend! 🥋🏆

This past Saturday and Sunday, Empire Dojo had the honor of competing in a martial arts tournament at the USKSF International Championship.

First, we'd like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the USKSF Tournament Organization for inviting us and for putting on a fantastic event. The competition was well organized, welcoming, and gave our students an unforgettable experience.

Now for the exciting part...

We brought four competitors... and all four came home with medals! 🥇🥈

Every one of our students earned 1st or 2nd place finishes in their sparring categories, despite having only about six weeks to prepare. We couldn't be more proud of their courage, discipline, and willingness to step outside their comfort zones.

What's even more special is this:

Empire Dojo is NOT a competition school.

Our primary mission has always been to build confident, respectful, capable people through practical martial arts—not to chase trophies. We train for self-defense, personal growth, character development, and real-life skills.

That said, this weekend proved something important...

When you focus on building strong fundamentals, good character, and quality technique, success follows.

This tournament was a "trial run" for us, and after seeing how much our students learned and grew from the experience, we're excited to announce that this definitely won't be our last! We plan to select a handful of tournaments each year for students who want to challenge themselves in a competitive environment.

To our four competitors: thank you for representing Empire Dojo with humility, sportsmanship, and heart. Win or lose, stepping onto that stage already made you champions in our eyes.

If you've ever wondered what martial arts can do for you or your child, we'd love to show you. Whether your goal is confidence, self-defense, fitness, discipline, or even future tournament opportunities, there's a place for you at Empire Dojo.

As a person with complex PTSD, I find the information in this video pretty accurate. Emotional regulation, social interaction, anxiety and other issues have improved for me.

Could you do me a huge favor and take a peek and let me know what you think?
