Summers wrapped up. Lots of L1-L4 tournaments in the month, but still substantial improvements and new faces. Also, abandoned basketball hoops = external competitive target for depth jumps 🏀 📈

Training for tennis at any level (junior, college, pro, or amateur levels) isn’t a random collection of exercises. You’re supposed to target strength, speed, conditioning, mobility, and durability that transfers to the court.

Most tennis players aren’t under-skilled. They’re underprepared physically. Here are 10 strength & conditioning myths I still hear.
🎾 Save this and send it to a player or parent who needs it.

Truth: Tennis players need strength to accelerate, brake, rotate, and stay durable. Strength training is physical prep for better tennis performance.

Poor programming can do that, but smart strength training improves power and speed. The target is applicable force, not size.

Tennis conditioning should include repeat bursts, short recovery, lateral work, and staying explosive through fatigue.

Often it’s movement efficiency, deceleration strength, and between-point recovery, not just exhausts the lungs. Be strategic with your approach and fill in the gaps.

Properly coached youth strength training should be safe and beneficial when technique, supervision, and progression come first.

Soreness is not success. We want progress you can repeat without trashing on-court quality. Remember if the goal is on court performance, why ship out a broken product after one hard workout?

A tennis core transfers force, resists rotation, and controls the trunk. Think anti-rotation, carries, and med ball throws.

The only thing genetic is this mindset. You can train acceleration, braking, first step, lateral movement, and reactivity. Not working these qualities will hurt you.

Mobility equals flexibility. Flexibility is range; mobility is controlled usable range during movement.

More play builds skill, not necessarily strength, braking mechanics, or fatigue resistance. What you do off the court should AID and IMPROVE your performance on court. If you do nothing, you’re leaving a lot on the table.
