THINGS WE DO IN SOBRIETY: Long-Distance Running Edition 🏃♀️✨
I loved outdoor running in my 20s (when I was made of rubber) and even ran some races during that time. I had gotten away from running during the height of my teaching years, as there was only so much impact my body could receive. We had the fortune of living in Charleston when the pandemic arrived in 2020, and at that point I began outdoor running again. I had forgotten how much I loved it! ❤️
Since moving back to NYC and especially since becoming , I had mentioned my interest in potentially stepping back into road racing numerous times to my amazing hubby ♥️
Over the summer, he surprised me with a registration to run a 10k, my first official run in…a looong time (decades?!). I was thrilled with my time and achieving 1st place female in my age group! So I thought, “can I do that run twice?” 🤔
I decided… f**k yes I could! So I proudly jumped into my first Half Marathon this past Saturday 10/19 in Prospect Park.
I felt amazing because in sobriety I can:
• build in time to train appropriately
• hydrate and nourish my body to give it maximum support
• regularly sleep really really (REALLY) well 💤
• listen to my body when I need to rest
• LOOK FORWARD TO WAKING UP AT 5am on a race day
• be proud of exactly where I am instead of wishing to be something/somewhere/someone else 🙏🏻
What have you done in sobriety that, let’s be serious, you wouldn’t have done otherwise? 🧐 I started my new page to share these fun stories and encourage our community to recognize the amazing things we can achieve once we start to really heal. Send me your stories and I’ll gladly post!
