Liberty Challenge The Hawaiian Airlines Liberty Challenge is a premier outrigger canoe race and Pacific Islands festival hosted by New York Outrigger.

The Hawaiian Airlines Liberty Challenge is one of the world's premier international outrigger races and the largest Pacific Islands festival on the East Coast. The day-long competition is divided into three races: the women's race, the men's race, and a mixed gender race. Crews compete along a challenging and visually-stunning course through New York Harbor and sections of the East River and Hudso

n River. Teams race past a number of iconic landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge and One World Trade Center. This iron outrigger race course is 15 miles for the men’s and women’s division, and 11 miles for the mixed division. Teams compete in both unlimited and spec design outrigger canoes. The free public festival draws thousands of New Yorkers to Hudson River Park's Pier 26 where they experience music, dance, food and family activities throughout the day. An annual event in New York City since 1997, the Hawaiian Airlines Liberty Challenge will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2016.
