Well 💩the radar has shifted and is now indicating rain continuing until about 8pm and then starting up again just before 9pm. We hate to do this but we're calling it off for tonight and hoping for dryer conditions next week.

We were perhaps too hopeful.

No video today but that stock song from Instagram really slaps. Looks like the weather is going to cooperate with us today so after a 2 week break we'll be on for tonight. Departing Union square at 8 pm.

Skaters please stay behind the lead and ahead of the sweep.

If your joining on a bike or skateboard please stay in the back of the pack.

Skating is inherently dangerous and you do so at your own risk.

The annual Dyker Heights Christmas lights skate is tonight. Note we are meeting at trionas on third not union square at 645 and leaving at 7pm sharp. That's right 7pm.

Other Options to join the skate (please don't be late or you will need to catch up)

1. Meet at Manhattan Bridge (in Manhattan south side) will pick you up around 7:30 PM
2. Meet at Manhattan Bridge (in Brooklyn - south side) will pick you up around 7:40 PM
3. Meet us along 5th Ave in Brooklyn as we travel south - we will be on 5th Ave from Dean St (7:55pm) down to 67th Street (8:30pm)
It is just about 11 miles from Triona's to the Dyker Heights area. It will take close to 1 1/2 hours to skate out there, and we want to be there by 8:45. We will spend 45 minutes exploring various streets and taking pictures. Hopefully we will get some new amazing group pictures.

At about 9:30 we will leave, and you will have 3 options. Like last year, some will opt to take a subway back or take an uber. The other option, of course, is to skate back. Depending on the group skating, we might be able to skate back a little faster. We should be back to Spotted Owl between 10:45 and 11 pm.

Skate at your own risk and dress appropriately for both safety and weather

Dyker Heights Christmas Lights
START: Triona’s on Third (192 3rd Av & 17th St)
LEAVE: Promptly at 7PM
END: Spotted Owl (Avenue A and 13th Street)
Please join us for our 10th annual magical night as we repeat Emilie’s skate from 2016 to the Dyker Heights Christmas lights in Brooklyn. The houses are truly jaw dropping amazing and you will want to take lots of pictures. (Don't say "Interested", say "GOING")
This is NOT a beginner skate, must be intermediate to advance. We will be going at a faster pace than the Holiday Skate last week!!
For now, we are posting this event for Wednesday Night (Dec 17). However, as the date approaches, if the weather forecast is really bad and it looks better another night, we might decide to change it to another night, RAIN DATE Thursday Dec 18th (but hopefully not). If it is really bad this week, we could also decide to do it the following week.

This is an Early Skate --- We must stick to schedule and leave promptly!!!

In previous years we got there just in time before some houses began to turn off their lights. Therefore, we want to get an earlier start again this time. Meetup and Leave times are listed below.

Options to join the skate (please don’t be late or you will need to catch up)

Get into the Holiday Spirit with this special skate around Manhattan, while stopping to see some great attractions.
We intentionally planned this skate early in the month, so those who might be leaving town for the holiday, can still participate.

Highlights will include the Department Store Windows at Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman, Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Saks Fifth Avenue(amazing lightshow), and Macy’s, the Tree at Rockefeller Center, the Big Red Balls, a few surprises (including an unknown tree and a cool tree lit street), Gracie Mansion, and Washington Square Park.
It is a quick way to see many attractions with no lines or crowds, while skating with friends.
We will keep a slower pace to allow everyone to enjoy this special skate, so please join us.
The skate will be about 11 miles.
