One of the biggest things we hear kids say more and more is “I can’t do it.”

As coaches and instructors, our job isn’t to do it for them or make everything easy. We encourage them to try first, make mistakes, ask for help, and try again.

Sometimes they get it on the first try. Sometimes it takes 10 tries. Sometimes it takes a few classes. That’s okay.

The important part is helping them slowly change “I can’t” into “Let me try.”

Those small wins add up, and eventually kids start realizing they’re capable of more than they thought.

It starts when a student walks through the door.

When we ask kids to answer loudly, we’re teaching them to speak clearly, respond with confidence, and use their voice when it matters.

But we also teach the opposite when it’s time to stop, listen, and focus.

Knowing when to speak up and when to listen is a skill kids can carry far beyond the martial arts floor.
