For this month's Team Abbott Spotlight, we're featuring one of the now 2,073 eight-star athletes in our Hall of Fame.
• Name: Mike Sheehy
• Age: 54 (as of last week…still deciding how I feel about that)
• Resides: Chicago, IL
• My Story:
I'm a U.S. Army veteran, run coach, and 100+ time marathoner and ultramarathoner. Running has been a huge part of my identity for as long as I can remember—it's my therapy, my community, and my way of giving back.
A few years ago, though, everything changed. I started struggling to hold my normal pace and just didn't feel like myself. Eventually, I learned my heart rate was dangerously low, and I needed a pacemaker.
Getting my Abbott pacemaker wasn't the end of my running story—it was the reset I didn't know I needed. It gave me my life back. Not only did I return to marathons, but I've also been able to keep coaching others and helping them chase goals they once thought were out of reach.
• My Motivation:
If my story helps even one person see their cardiologist without fear—and understand that a diagnosis doesn't mean the end of an active, fulfilling life—then every mile I run is worth it.
• Next/Upcoming Race:
Marine Corps Marathon 2026
• Favorite Post-Race Meal:
Nachos (the bigger the plate, the better)
