New York Magpies

Gotta love this week’s local legend. Matteo is a heart and soul player at the Magpies, always stepping up for others and being a great clubman.

He’s also a firefighter and played a huge role in organising our 9-11 Memorial Match with Queensland Fire and Rescue AFL and an FDNY color guard.

Hailing from Washington State but finding his second home in the great state of New York, Mark has thrown himself into footy since coming to a couple of trainings this time last year. He’s got kicking down pat and in a short time has become a core member of our squad. A ripper character, he’s always happy to chat to anyone and let us all know how good his alma mater Syracuse.

Next Sunday on 9/13 we are hosting the Queensland Fire and Rescue Brigade for a commemoration game in memoriam of 9/11. 25 years have passed since the tragedy that shook NYC and 343 firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice. We remember their courage and honor their bravery.

Our game will be at 12pm at Governors Island Parade Grounds with a NYCAFL game to follow. Come play or come cheer us on as the NYC Magpies face the QLD F&R Bears!
