Advanced Public Speakers Club is an advanced Toastmasters club where the only prerequisite for membership is having your Competent Communicator Award. APS members are active and dedicated Toastmasters who enjoy fun theme meetings, special events and workshops, and an annual club debate. Members like the challenge of rigorous speech evaluations, and many of them love to compete in contests, often w
ith great success. With members from many different "home" clubs, APS usually has a member or two competing at the District level each contest season. APS members believe in the Toastmasters cause and are active in District 46 leadership, serving as district officers, club mentors and coaches. APS made history in 2013 with the first ever humorous debate, “Should Dogs be Banned from Manhattan?” In 2014 our debate was adapted from a book and District Championship humorous speech by APS member Brian Robinson, “Should Men Meet Women on the Subway?” Other popular meetings have included a personal finance/debt free workshop, an “elevator pitch” workshop and an event featuring World Champion of Public Speaking Darren LaCroix and “TED” talk specialist Cathey Armillas.
