Athlete Ally

Athlete Ally is the longest-standing nonprofit in the United States dedicated to fostering allyship in athletics.

Athlete Ally is a nonprofit organization working to build a future where sports welcome everyone, without prejudice or stereotypes, by educating and activating athletic communities to exercise their leadership to champion LGBT equality. We provide public awareness campaigns, educational programming, tools and resources to foster inclusive sports communities. We mobilize Ambassadors in collegiate, professional and Olympic sports who work to foster “allyship” in their athletic environments. The programs include Ambassadors from over 60 colleges and over 150 professional athletes.

Today is World Mental Health Day and this year’s theme is “Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change.” The research is clear: sport can be a space that improves mental health for participants when they’re welcomed and included. It’s one of the primary reasons we’re dedicated to expanding access to athletic spaces. The (Un)Seen Self invites athletes to interrupt that pattern by sharing how they see themselves through a self-portrait that represents something about their experiences in sport. We’re excited to announce that adidas is our third honoree at this year’s . For more than a decade, adidas has been a steadfast partner and supporter of Athlete Ally. It’s hard to believe that September has come and gone but what a month it was! We’re reflecting on a few of the big moments from the past month:

- being at the US Open Pride events! Such a great opportunity to connect with likeminded folks and celebrate the power of inclusion in tennis.
- We joined RE to record their latest TRS episode focused on being better allies to trans youth and what trans inclusion in sports looks like.
- We launched our Collective! 15 athletes from across the country joined our cohort to do culture change work on their campuses. We’ve loved starting to share their work!
- We ramped up for our Action Awards announcing our honorees.
- We spoke at the MACtion event discussing allyship in action in collegiate athletics

We’re so grateful for all our partners and supporters who share our commitment to transforming for good.
