Once upon a time in Queens, before 3 kids, I had a 4,000 sqft fitness studio, an ideal HIIT playground to get myself and others into shape.. now it’s just me & my big butt in my 45 sqft CLOSET…lol😂Set up a schedule with my husband, so I can get in there in the mornings. My issue’s not HOW to get in shape (that part I know well) the problem was finding WHEN and WHERE I’d be able to be consistent. I’d workout in various rooms in the house (bc finding the time to get to the gym with 3 kids, ages 5 and under & no childcare wasn’t working out). Once I hit my goal, my gusto dropped bc I didn’t enjoy it. I needed a place to show up for myself, not be tracked down by my little angels, & where for 1hr I could be mentally and physically free.
I didn’t feel worthy to make this effort for myself, there was guilt for taking the time away & inconveniencing my husband to watch the kids. It took time setting up and putting away my stuff so my kids wouldn’t mess with the weights. Many factors contributed to my tapering drive & inconsistent motivation…some people could train w/ kids hanging on them, and I did that too….BUT dreaded it & if you don’t like the way something feels, you’re not going to be consistent in doing it!!! Reread that. Getting daily exercise is imperative for me because it lets me be the best mom-version of myself. I am patient & energized when I prioritize my workouts. I also know that when I workout to a certain intensity, I’m less likely to overeat (helping to create a calorie deficit). It’s a physiological thing, my appetite suppresses and I’m not mindlessly searching for a snack…lol
Anyways..I told my husband I was ripping out all the clothes in my closet & donating 2/3 of it to make room for a workout space.it took a week to execute my drastic plan, we were surrounded by clothes for a bit..my space is simple, small, not very pretty, but it’s all mine, it’s the catalyst needed to make more positive changes & trust me I can get the same physique in 45 sqft that I did in 4,000 sqft! I’m over 2 wks in, #1 thing is I’m feeling better..not ‘looking’ better yet 😬that’ll come in time, so let’s see what I can achieve in my closet by May 1. Stay tuned!
