The co-founders of the Play On Basketball School, Eddie Mayrose and Tim Shanahan, share the firm belief that their early participation in team sports has enriched their lives in ways that transcend the playing fields. The experience gained from working with teammates toward a common goal has fostered lifelong f
riendships, contributed to professional success and inspired them them to guide others along the same path. It is a tenet of the school that no child's love of the game should be defined by his or her ability to play it. Rather, their exposure to an encouraging and positive environment, coupled with basic yet critical instruction, serves to bolster their aptitude and give them the confidence to seek their own level of improvement. Whether players are being introduced to the game or seeking to prepare for competition on the high school level, the instructional philosophy of the Play On School will serve their interests effectively. Coach Shanahan, the Head Coach of women's basketball at the College of Staten Island and reigning CUNY Coach of the Year, and Coach Mayrose, a long-time youth coach whose resume spans the grade school level through high school, combine their understanding of the learning process with a vast array of specific drills to give each student a rewarding and productive experience.
