If you ate McDonald’s before 1990, you may remember when the fries tasted different.
Not just hotter.
Different.
The old fries were cooked in a beef-tallow blend, and people still describe them as richer, crispier, and somehow more like a real treat than a side item.
Then McDonald’s changed to vegetable oil.
The fries stayed golden.
They stayed salty.
They still came in that little red carton.
But for a lot of people, the flavor they remembered from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s was gone.
That is why people can look at the same exact McDonald’s fries today and still say, “They just don’t taste like they used to.”
Do you remember the old fries being better, or do today’s taste the same to you?
