A rare photograph of Patriarch Moy Yat’s Kung Fu school in Chinatown, Manhattan, believed to have been taken around 1980. At the time, the school was located on the second floor before later moving to the sixth floor.

Also visible is the street banner advertising my father’s Locku Chai (樂古齋, Ngaau Gyu Jaai) Art Studio and one of its art exhibitions, a reminder that beyond being a renowned Kung Fu master, he was also a highly respected artist and calligrapher.

This image captures a unique moment in the history of the Moy Yat family, where the worlds of Kung Fu and Chinese art stood side by side in the heart of New York’s Chinatown.
