The legendary James Lew has left us 😔

We lost a legend.

James Lew – stuntman, martial artist, Emmy Award-winning stunt coordinator, and one of the most quietly formidable men in Hollywood – passed away recently. He was 73.

I first discovered James the same way a lot of us did: watching Big Trouble in Little China and thinking, “who IS that guy?” Then I kept seeing his face in Black Belt and Inside Kung Fu, credit after credit, film after film. The man was everywhere action happened.

So when James came through our school at City Wing Tsun to train stuntmen while working on Luke Cage – the Emmy-winning production he helped put on the map – meeting him was a full-circle moment I’ll never forget.

He was exactly who you’d hope he’d be. Humble. Warm. Not a drop of Hollywood ego. We had real conversations. He’d even text every now and then when something came up – a gig, a project. A genuine connection.

James helped define what martial arts on film could look like. And he did it for over five decades without losing the substance that made him great in the first place.

Rest well, Sifu. The community you helped build will carry it forward.

Hello City Wing Tsun FB Fam!

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend and are ready to kick off another great week of training!

I have an important announcement to share. After a decade of dedicated service, our head instructor, Sifu Craig Savino, will be likely opening his own group under the City Wing Tsun Athletic Association, probably in Brooklyn. Although the exact location and timeline hasn't been finalized yet, I'm excited for him and grateful for the inspiration he has provided to so many waves of CWT students. Sifu Craig has helped shape countless well-trained students, many of whom are already advanced practitioners or instructors themselves. Thank you, Sifu Craig, for your years of commitment!

With this transition, I will be taking over the reins of City Wing Tsun, just as I did during the first ten years of our school. I’ll be teaching the majority of the classes myself, with assistance from Sifu Allan, Sifu Dre, and the rest of our wonderful team, especially when I’m traveling abroad.

This week, I’ll be making updates to the class schedule, which I’ll share with you soon. As a result, I will also have more availability for private training sessions, and I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. I’m thrilled to share my heartfelt congratulations to my student Sifu Barry Cooper for successfully building up his school, Element Wing Tsun, in Harrington Park, New Jersey. It has been incredible to see him create a community of dedicated and hardworking Wing Tsun students.

Recently, I had the pleasure of teaching at his first seminar—what an amazing experience! Meeting all of his students and sharing our passion for martial arts was truly rewarding. 💪

A special shoutout to my longtime student Antonio Hart, who is also a part owner of Element. He has officially earned his Sifu title! I couldn’t be prouder of his achievements. 🙌

Additionally, I’m excited to announce that Sifu Barry has earned the fifth-level practitioner rank from me, making him one of only four to achieve this rank in my association.

Keep pushing forward, everyone! Together, we are building something extraordinary!
