From Forest Hills to the world stage! 🇺🇸🥈

So proud of Kori and her incredible journey from starting Taekwondo at age 6 to becoming a World Silver Medalist at 13!

A Forest Hills teenager earned a silver medal at the World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in South Korea last month, excelling in a non-combat form of taekwondo involving a sequence of choreographed movements against imaginary opponents. Kori Tsang, 13, claimed silver as part of the Team USA Female Cadet Team (ages 12-14) alongside her teammates Dina Dorack and Arianna Lee, defeating teams from Thailand, Indonesia and Hong Kong en route to the final before losing to host nation Korea.

What does a 4-year-old actually learn in martial arts? 🥋

At this age, progress isn’t always the perfect kick.

It can be walking onto the mat without Mom or Dad, listening to an instructor, waiting their turn, raising their hand, or simply being willing to try.

Those little moments can be BIG wins for a 3–5 year old.

Small steps turn into big progress. 🥋

One of the biggest things we hear kids say more and more is “I can’t do it.”

As coaches and instructors, our job isn’t to do it for them or make everything easy. We encourage them to try first, make mistakes, ask for help, and try again.

Sometimes they get it on the first try. Sometimes it takes 10 tries. Sometimes it takes a few classes. That’s okay.

The important part is helping them slowly change “I can’t” into “Let me try.”

Those small wins add up, and eventually kids start realizing they’re capable of more than they thought.
