You've probably tried to feel less of something. Anxiety, shame, whatever sits in your chest at 2am. Push it down, stay busy, don't look at it.
The system that produces the pain produces everything else too. Turn it down and joy goes quiet with it. That's why numbing works and why it costs so much. So what actually helps?
Not feeling less. Feeling with more accuracy.🌟
Researchers call it 'emotional granularity'. Most people describe distress in one blurry word: bad, stressed, off. Your brain can't do anything with that, so it defaults to whatever it always does. Pour a drink. Open your phone. Snap at someone.
But when you name it exactly, this is shame, not guilt, this is dread, not stress, the brain gets something specific to work with. Tension drops. The urge to escape loosens.
Try it this week. When you catch yourself saying "I'm fine" or "I'm stressed," stop and find the real word. Write one sentence about it. Notice what happens.
That's the entry point. It's also where most people stall, because some of what you're naming has been sitting in your body for years and doesn't move on words alone.
That's where I come in. The Release Practice combines IFS, which helps you meet the parts of you carrying that weight instead of fighting them, and BSR, somatic work that releases what the body has been holding.
