A takedown isn’t enough. Once someone hits the ground, they will move, resist, turn, push, pull, or try
to get back up.

Real control starts with understanding resistance and
preventing movement before it becomes a problem. Their reaction also gives you information. If you know how to read it, you can use their movement to improve your position and stay ahead.

That requires practice and skill. Hope is not a strategy.

Always have a surprise up your sleeve. Sparring is a chance to experiment, change your rhythm, try something unexpected, and occasionally leave your partner wondering what just happened.

Be playful with your training while keeping control. Your partner should feel challenged, not punished.

Good sparring can be serious training and still be fun.

Getting pushed and hit is a realistic
possibility in street violence.

If you’re pushed to the ground, your
first priority is to manage the fall and
protect yourself from hitting your
head or suffering whiplash. Then
you need to recover quickly and be
ready for what may come next.

The attacker may continue. The
longer you wait to respond and
create an exit, the more difficult that
exit can become.

Train the fall. Train the recovery.
Train for what comes next.

This video isn’t self-defense advice.
Whenever possible, we prefer to
disengage and get away. Here, we’re
slowing things down so students
can explore the position, recognize
where they have movement, and
learn how to improve it.

This wrist grab drill from our
women-only class is about
understanding positions and
learning how movement changes
your options on the ground.

Sometimes slowing down gives you
the space to understand what you’re
doing and build better skills.

Most situations we face every day require awareness long before they require fighting skills.

Learn to recognize what can become dangerous, what to avoid, and how to remove yourself before
the situation gets worse. At the same time, develop the skills to protect yourself and the people you
love when avoiding the danger is no longer possible.

That is the essence of self-defense.

The objects you carry every day can become useful when you understand what they can actually do.

A bag, water bottle, phone, or keys can help you create distance, protect yourself, distract, strike, or escape. Each object has advantages and limitations. The skill is recognizing them quickly and using what is already available.

A jab is thrown with your lead hand. It is usually faster and requires less commitment, making it useful for measuring distance, creating openings, and disrupting your opponent.

A cross is thrown with your rear hand, using rotation from the hips and shoulders to generate more power. It travels farther and usually carries more commitment.

Learn both as tools. Speed, distance, timing, and purpose determine which one you need.

Knowing a self-defense technique is not enough. In Krav Maga, you have to read your position, distance,
timing, and the full situation before you act.
The wrong technique at the wrong moment can take away your best option and make the situation

Krav Maga self-defense training has to develop decision-making under pressure, not just technique recall.
Pressure, fatigue, distance, and context force you to recognize the problem and choose the right
response without an instructor giving you the answer. Real skill is built through practice.

Techniques are like moves in chess.
Every move creates a reaction, and every reaction changes your
options.

First, learn to recognize the position you are in. Then understand your options and choose the one that gives you the best exit.

Skill is knowing what to do next when the situation changes.
