The 90-Second Rule
From a neurobiological standpoint, a clean emotional response—the chemical flush through your body—actually only lasts about 90 seconds.
• The Cycle: An event happens, chemicals are released, and they surge and then fade.
• The Trap: We usually “accept” the emotion by attaching a story to it (“I am angry because...”). This story re-triggers the chemical release, keeping the emotion alive for hours or days.
• The Power: By not accepting it as “yours,” you let the 90-second cycle complete itself and dissipate naturally.
2. The “Guest House” Perspective
Think of your consciousness as a vast, quiet room. An emotion like anxiety or anger is just a traveler passing through the door.
• If you accept it, you invite it to sit down, unpack its bags, and live there.
• If you observe it, you simply watch it walk from one door to the other. You acknowledge its presence (“There is a feeling of tension”) without identifying with it (“I am a tense person”).
3. Maintaining Your Frequency
In the context of energy and vibration, every emotion has a specific frequency. Heavy emotions like grief or fear vibrate at a lower frequency, while joy and peace vibrate higher.
• When you “accept” a heavy emotion as your own, your personal frequency temporarily drops to match it.
• When you let it pass through, your baseline frequency remains stable. You remain the “Master” of your energetic space, even if a low-frequency storm is passing through the area.
Practical Technique: The “Label and Release”
Next time a strong emotion hits, try this internal dialogue:
1. Acknowledge: “I see you, [Emotion Name].”
2. Distance: Instead of saying “I am sad,” say “I am experiencing a wave of sadness.”
3. Release: Visualize the emotion as a cloud or a stream of water moving past you. It is moving around you, but it is not of you.
