Through our partnership with NYCFC, our kids and their families were able to enjoy this Sunday’s game on Mother’s Day, including participating as Home Player Mascots at the beginning of the game and Post-Game Shots on the Goal at Yankee Stadium. (Goalie Matt Freese wasn’t blocking shots so we all made it in.) We love our volunteers, and we’re so grateful to NYCFC for these memory-making experiences! ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️

We are excited to see you all at Opening Day Saturday, March 28, 2026!

What is Opening Day?

Meet your coaches, team staff and teammates, get your uniforms, choose your team name and get ready for your first weekend game of the season (which will take place on 4/11). Team rosters will be listed upon arrival.

When should I come? Where do we meet?

The following teams will be gathering in the Bushwick Inlet Park Community Center at the following times.

U6 G/B – 9:00am

U7 G/B – 9:30am

U8 G/B – 10:00am

U10 G – 10:30am

U10 B – 11:00am

U12 G – 11:30am

U12 B – 12:00pm

U14 G/B – 12:30pm

Who is my team?

Each team should have a designated Coach, Assistant Coach, Team Manager and Referee!

If you have not heard from your coach, roster lists will be provided when you arrive.

Anything else?

LAST SEASON’S UNIFORM! Please bring your uniform (NO SOCKS!!) from last season if it’s in good shape and you no longer want it. We will be able to reuse them this season!

EQUIPMENT SWAP! We will have a swap table, so please bring equipment to donate. This would include TURF shoes, shin guards and goalie gloves. Please DO NOT bring old socks or shorts.

Ready to referee in GWYSL?

Training for U7/U8 can be done entirely online.

We will be holding in-person training for referees who want to officiate up to and including U10/U12 on Sunday, March 29 from 10 am to 2 pm at Kent Ale House. Register for this course via AYSOU - see instructions linked above to access, click the calendar view to find the in-person class - and be sure to come on time with pen and paper. Your lunch will be provided!

Saturday, November 1 — Silent Saturday

Silent Saturday is an AYSO player-development initiative designed to let kids lead, build confidence, and maximize fun—much like the way they play together informally after school. The goals are to (1) keep the focus on player enjoyment, (2) encourage athletes to trust their skills and instincts, (3) develop on-field leadership and teamwork, and (4) model an alternative to constant sideline direction.

What this means for each of us:

Spectators: Please refrain from verbal comments to players, referees, or coaches. Clapping is encouraged!

Coaches: No in-play instruction (verbal or non-verbal). Coach as usual before kickoff, at subs, and at halftime. Encourage players to communicate with one another.

Referees: Limit vocalizations, use hand signals, and whistle only to start/stop play. Let the game flow.

Players: Play as you normally would, and communicate with your teammates on the field.

GYWSL families!

If you/your spouse/your child would like to make refereeing your family’s volunteer contribution to our all-volunteer league, join us this Saturday, September 20 at Brick Aux from 10:30 am to 3:45 pm for Regional Referee training.

No prerequisite knowledge or experience is required, lunch will be provided, and participants can become certified as a Referee for all age levels up to U12 and be an Assistant Referee for older ages. Class is open to everyone 12 and older.

Register for the class by logging into your InLeague account (same software used to register players), clicking the little graduation cap icon in the upper right corner of the page, and clicking the button to enter AYSOU. This is our education platform. Search the course library for “Regional Referee” near your location to find our course. If you have any difficulty getting registered, email me at [email protected] and I can help.

This is the third and final opportunity to take this class for the fall season, so I hope all interested volunteers can join us.
