Congratulations to Brooklyn Lycans for winning the BACDYS CUP T-20 2026 Championship, and to East New York for being the Runners Up. The Kissena Park was set up beautifully last Saturday, where spectators witnessed a range of power hitting as East New York went down to Brooklyn Lycans in the last over of the match to hand the Lycans their first-ever T20 title.
Earlier in the day, East New York had the better of Predators CC in their semifinal game, beating them convincingly by 5 wickets in a low-scoring encounter. Meanwhile, the Lycans continued their unbeaten run in the tournament by clinching a thriller against Piranha SC in the other semifinal, winning by 2 wickets to advance. The final had the potential to deliver one of the best matches with two of the best teams of the tournament.
East New York won the crucial toss and opted to bat first, and it didn't take long for the batsmen to turn up to back that decision. Opener Md Rafsan came out all guns blazing as he dealt in boundaries only to give East New York a thunderous start to the innings. With Mohammed Nazu 21(27) playing the anchoring role, Rafsan went over a SR of 211 to make 55(27) with 7 sixes to give them their best opening partnership of the tournament. The innings was pulled back after Rafsan's wicket through Mohammed Shakib's brilliant spell of three quick wickets. Mirza Islam's 28(22) gave some momentum back to the runs as East New York eyed a strong finish to the innings, which was once again halted by Rohisul Rasel's four lightning wickets. A wonderful comeback in the bowling performance by Lycans, with a combination of some sharp fielding, helped contain the runs, which at one point seemed to get towards 200 to a par 162 in 20 overs. Rasel and Shakib were the pick of the bowlers, claiming four and three wickets respectively.
In response, the Lycans openers went out in the middle with a clear plan to give the innings a strong start. Striking at a rate of 232, Intaul Alvi was up to the task as he opened up his array of shots to run towards halfway mark of the target inside 8 overs. With Alvi's 58(25) dismissal after an opening partnership of 108 in 9 overs, Sufian's 54(55) composed innings held fort at the other end to guide the innings. While two quick wickets fell in three balls, the asking rate was never in question, as skipper Tanvir Sami's 23*(28) calm innings ensured the Lycans got over the line without any trouble. Needing 5 off the last 6 deliveries, Hemal came into the crease and had only one idea in mind - finish things off in style with a 6. He summed up the match, where everyone was entertained with some wonderful power hitting - a match that consisted of twenty-three 6s and only seven 4s. The Lycans chased the innings comfortably at the end with 6 wickets in hand.
Inatul Alvi of Brooklyn Lycans was the Man of the Final for his scintillating knock. East New York spinner Akram Aslam was awarded the Best Bowler with 15 wickets. Sultan Mahmud of Piranha Sporting Club was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament for his brilliant all-round performances. The Champions, Brooklyn Lycans, took home a reward of USD 3,000 (sponsored by BACDYS), while the Runners-Up, East New York, were rewarded with USD 1,500 (sponsored by BACDYS). The officiating umpires for the Final were Krishna and Adnan. Carl and Ekok covered the live commentary.
