Coach Barry Liles’s Celebration of Life will be held at Claiborne High School’s Mulit-purpose room next Sunday, June 14th from 3-5 pm with a service that will follow. Here is the information below:

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 3-5pm with a service to follow at Claiborne High School Multipurpose Room. The family invites all who knew him to attend to celebrate Barry’s dedication to family, faith and the community. Pastor Tanner McDowell of First Baptist New Tazewell along with a personal friend and Florida First Priority Regional Director, Joe Maldonado, will officiate the celebration of life.

Coach Liles made a tremendous impact everywhere he went—from Lenoir City to Morristown East to Tellico Plains, Grainger County, and at Claiborne High School. His influence reached far beyond the gridiron, touching countless lives in meaningful ways.

We are truly grateful that the Lord placed him in our community and for everything he did for Claiborne County.

Thank you to WVLT and Lindsey Stenger for sharing his story and helping highlight the lasting impact Coach Barry Liles had on our community and so many others.

Please be on the lookout for ways we will soon honor Coach Liles and celebrate all he meant to Claiborne High School and the many students he influenced throughout his life.

Thank you for taking the time to highlight Coach Liles and the impact he had on so many of us. He meant more to Claiborne County than just football—he was a mentor, a role model, and someone who truly cared about every young man and woman he came across.

Saturday June 20th Claiborne Football Boosters will be hosting a yard sale at Claiborne High School 8 am - 2 pm. It’s only $10 to set up and you keep all your earnings.

The boosters will be selling old football jerseys as well as season passes for the 2026 season!

It’s hard to put into words the kind of impact Coach Barry Liles had on the Claiborne County community and beyond.

Whether it was being a positive influence on student-athletes, serving faithfully in local churches and ministries, teaching and investing in students through PE, or mentoring coaches on the Claiborne football staff, his reach touched so many—and will continue to for years to come.

During his time as Head Football Coach at Claiborne High School, Coach Liles worked tirelessly to ensure the facilities reflected the pride he had in the program. While he always competed to win every game, his true mission was much bigger—he was committed to helping young men and women become the best versions of themselves. You chase perfection to land on greatness.

In 2025, Coach Liles returned to Claiborne in a non-coaching role, simply to serve. He took it upon himself to help restore the facilities and pour into the current staff. The playing surface had deteriorated, but through his dedication and hard work, he helped bring life back to the field and surrounding areas. Most recently, he made sure everything looked its best for Claiborne’s graduation this past May.

No one asked him to do it. No one made him do it. No one paid him to do it. He did it because he loved this community and the people in it. He believed in taking pride in what you have and making the most of it.

Coach Barry Liles will be deeply missed by so many. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he impacted. Thank you for everything Coach.

Congratulations Coach Barry Liles! A much well earned retirement. Coach Liles was the first Head Football Coach at the new Claiborne High School in 2003. Coach Liles led the bulldogs to 4 playoff appearances in his tenure. Coach Liles impacted many lives in the classroom and on the football field. For everything you have done and continue to do for Claiborne High School and its student athletes, thank you and Happy Retirement!
