The Kiwanis Club of New River is beyond excited to announce the approval of $500,000 in funding from the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors through their Community Solutions Funding Program!
This money will be going towards a playground that will include a ....."a large play structure built using recycled materials as well as play activities for all ages and abilities, including multiple types of slides, monkey bars, balance features, a river rock climber, puzzles, a communication board, a sensory wave wall, a large climbing net, and an adult fitness area." Maricopa County press release.
We are also looking at revitalizing the remaining 2 ball fields (the north most ball field will become the new playground), improving the basketball court, with the potential addition of a portable pickleball net, adding additional ramadas and seating for outdoor gatherings, and maintaining the Larkyn Dwyer Memorial arena.
These efforts would not have been possible had it not been for the committed work of those that are no longer involved in the Kiwanis club; Tony Gutowski, Horst Kraus, Jeff Tendick, and Eileen Baden for their work on the establishment, and continued furthering, of the relationship with Maricopa County and the Board of Supervisors. This has been a multiple year project that is coming to fruition to benefit the entirety of our community.
The current Kiwanis Club, (Charlie Fisher, Andrew Walden, Patty Faber, Cyndi Tendick, Jason Phifer, Stephanie Trujillo, Kathy Lunghi) is excited to continue these efforts through park maintenance and other community projects.
Construction is slated to begin in March and be completed by May of 2025.
The Kiwanis Club is always looking for new members, volunteers, and business sponsorships. If you are interested please reach out for more information.
Thank you for your support and allowing us to continue to provide a gathering space for the community with a wonderful playground!
