There’s been plenty of activity at the Cam Schafer racing shop (Tianna's garage) over the past couple of weeks—and not exactly the kind you put on the highlight reel.
First, a blown midget engine. Yes, that midget. The same one that took a year and a half to get back after the last time. It at first sounded like an easy fix but now is a different story.
Then the #54 Rathpak Racing UMSS car decided it wanted a little love and new heads, valves etc blowing up at Cedar Lake Speedway last Saturday.
And if that wasn’t enough excitement, Zach Widdes and the 97 midget took a wild ride at Thunder Hill on Thursday. After tearing it apart, Cam discovered the frame is junk along with a ton of bolt on parts. Oopsie.
The good news? Both engines are out and already back with their builders. Cam plans to have his UMSS engine back in time to race Friday and Saturday. The midget motor...well Roach says midgets are stupid.
Roach has thankfully been keeping things boring, handling routine maintenance on his car and getting ready for Princeton Speedway and Ogilvie.
As for Scott Brandt, his engine still isn't fixed, so he'll be sitting this one out as well.
At the end of the day, this is racing. When there are multiple race cars, you also have multiple opportunities for expensive surprises.
Most importantly, we're thankful Zach Widdes wasn't seriously hurt after taking that heck of a ride and we hope he's back at the track soon.
Although... there may be a new rule about who gets to drive the G & S cars.... Sorry, Zach. 🤣
Also, not sure who Jason is. 😂🤣
