AMAZING NEWS! Governor DeSantis signed HB 321 – Release of Balloons into law today! The intentional release of balloons is finally banned in Florida, a peninsula that supports important wildlife habitat and an economy that depends on our waterways. We are so grateful to the bill sponsors, our followers who learned about the bill and contacted legislators, and our environmental partners. We are hopeful that this new law will reduce the amount of balloon litter that can harm Florida’s sea turtles and their habitats.

Wiley Post reached the stratosphere in his Lockheed Vega "Winnie Mae," on this day in 1934. The aircraft didn't have a pressurized cabin, so he wore a pressure suit and helmet designed for him by the B.F. Goodrich Company, which is in our collection.
