Iridium Fitness & Wellness We are an online Fitness platform sharing some tips on staying fit and healthy. An online only fitness program giving some tips on fitness and wellness.

Always remember to consult your physician before changing or starting a new fitness routine or changing your diet. As a cancer and stroke survivor I figured having an online presence would not only help me stay motivated but can help other survivors and people stay fit and healthy.

Benefits of Walking:

2 minutes - your body warms up and blood circulation increases

5-10 minutes - stress hormones like cortisol decrease and mood increases

10-20 minutes - your body breaks down stress hormones and uses fat for fuel, mental clarity and focus improves

20-30 minutes - your body continues to burn fat, more efficiently burns calories and blood sugar begins to decrease

30-45 minutes - you fell more relaxed, negative thoughts dissolve and your heart settles into a steady rhythm

45-60 minutes - endorphins kick in rewarding you with happiness hormones like dopamine, boosting overall mental wellbeing leaving you refreshed and energized

I am big on cardio! Before each workout I start with a 2 and a half mile walk! A good steady paced walk helps get the blood pumping making it easier to build muscle during your workout. Another big reason I push the cardio so much is heart health and diabetes management. It can be great for controling those bad blood sugar levels. It helps me keep those morning numbers down by doing a 2.5 mile walk each day but this highly depends on the individual and your goals, so test yourself, see how far you can go, how it effects you and the set a goal for each day. In a week you may see you can go further with less effort and this will give you that drive to keep going!

Get going with your first workout. Choose which exercises you are doing. Test yourself and see how much weight and how many repetitions you will do. Aim for at least 3 days a week, giving your body time to rest and recover on your off days! For example 1 mile on the treadmill then 3 sets of 10, 100lbs bench press. 3 sets 12, 25lbs curls adding whatever exercises you want adjusting weigh, reps and how many sets you will do. Don’t try to do too much too fast which could result in injury.

Like I said before it’s never too late to get started with your fitness goals. If you are not a gym goer like me and prefer exercising at home set up your home gym. You do not have to go crazy or spend a bunch of money. You can get started with a few free weights or resistance bands. I probably went a little overboard myself buying some equipment on Amazon but here is my home gym, not much but gets the job done!

You've probably heard before that you should drink 8, 8 ounce glasses of water a day. It's true drinking enough water keeps the body hydrated, which helps the heart more easily pump blood through the body. It also helps muscles work efficiently. If you’re well hydrated, your heart doesn’t have to work as hard and building muscle becomes easier.

Whether you are a gym goer or prefer to workout at home, staying active and physically fit can have many benefits.
