State University of New York at New Paltz men's swimming sophomore Cooper Knapp may be coming off the first national championship in program history since 1994, but no one would have guessed he'd go that far when he first started swimming at the age of seven.

Cooper Knapp, representing New Paltz at NCAAs in Indianapolis, took 6th place tonight in the 400 IM with a school and conference record of 3:55.47!! Yesterday he scored 9th in the 200 IM, coming in with another school and conference record of 1:48.28!! Can’t wait for the 200 fly tomorrow, taking off right at 10am. First session in the books!! Two solid 8free relays, placing second on the men’s side and fourth on the women’s. And let us introduce your new 800 Free school record holders, coming in at 6:58.71 Barrett Celecki, Cooper Knapp, Caleb Treadwell, Kevin Sales. First record of 2018!
