We created small tours so we can take you into the heart of this mysterious, dying land and give you the full story behind their creation, the life and culture they sustained, and the reasons for their tragic decline. Lost Lands tour guides have extensive wetlands experience and knowledge. They include a two-time Pulitzer Prize winning reporter who covered Louisiana coastal issues for 30 years, winning awards from the National Academies of Sciences and Columbia University; the producer of the only television series on the subject; a university professor and avid kayak enthusiast; and a former forest ranger who is an experienced environmental educator.

We're honored to welcome Torbjörn Törnqvist as the speaker of next month's CRCLecture!

A team led by Torbjörn Törnqvist of Tulane University published research this year that sparked conversations and debate across Louisiana. The findings contend that because of the rapid rate of land loss, Louisiana and the communities along our coast must prepare for shoreline retreat, framing the situation an opportunity to develop globally useful strategies to adapt to a changing planet. The researchers say there is time. But they make the case that planning must begin now.

Törnqvist, the Vokes Geology Professor in Tulane’s Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences in the School of Science and Engineering, will speak about the research in the latest lecture in CRCL’s series, then will participate in a Q&A session. The night will include snacks and beverages.
